The City of Eagan is hiring Rink Attendants for the winter season.

This position is responsible for welcoming and supervising patrons, enforcing park rules, and general customer service at the winter outdoor facilities.  Applicants should enjoy working outdoors and have excellent customer service skills.

Hours are evenings, weekends, holidays, and school release days, and is dependent on winter weather conditions from December 22nd - February 20th.

Job Summary

Essential Position Functions:

  • Create and ensure wholesome recreational atmosphere
  • Communicate with general public in a professional and courteous manner
  • Perform outdoor and indoor maintenance at park sites including shoveling, vacuuming, cleaning restrooms, removing hockey rink sideboards and pushing goals out of the hockey rinks
  • Coordinate set up, take down and use of the facility
  • Responsible for his/her own transportation to winter outdoor facilities
  • Respond to inquiries and concerns relating to the use of the winter outdoor facilities
  • Prevent/mediate/resolve conflicts that may arise during scheduled facility hours
  • Provide written and/or verbal reports on all incidents and facility concerns 
  • Visually inspect and monitor weather conditions to ensure a safe environment
  • Wear the appropriate winter attire during your shift
  • Available for scheduled work hours including evening, weekend, holidays and school release days
  • Ability to work independently and respond to work direction


Other Position Functions:

  • Communicate and interact with a diverse participant population
  • Maintain a positive, polite, considerate and cooperative attitude
  • Inform supervisor of any supply or maintenance needs
  • Maintain attendance records
  • Other duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 15 years of age or older by start date of employment
  • Minimum of 6 months of volunteer or paid work experience
  • Must be able to socially, physically and mentally perform all essential position functions under the working conditions as described


Desirable Qualifications:

  • Previous work experience in winter outdoor facilities   


Work Environment:  50% outside, 50% inside

  • Winter weather conditions can reach -15 degrees combining temperature and wind chill for extended periods
  • Snow and ice must be traversed constantly when outdoors
  • Exposure to debris and blood borne pathogens
  • Park users of all ages attend sites with attendance ranging from zero to several hundred
  • Hours of operation include evenings, weekends, holidays and school release days
  • Heavy lifting up to 75 pounds and pushing occur when shoveling, lifting sideboards and removing goals
  • Cleaning and maintenance include dusting, vacuuming, sweeping and using chemicals

  • The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, run, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distant vision, color vision and peripheral vision
