The Communications and Digital Intern will assist the Digital and Marketing Strategist, Communications and Engagement Director, and Communications Coordinator to create and execute communication tactics including social media content creation and distribution, content writing, speech writing, presentation creation, and digital content distribution (web and email).

The ideal candidate will be energetic, inventive, hard-working, digital and social media savvy, and bring ideas about creative ways to engage audiences.

While assisting with a wide range of projects, the intern will gain hands-on experience and training in many aspects of communications, marketing, speech writing, and communication plan development, while also gaining a good understanding of a government agency. You’ll also have the opportunity to learn how to work collaboratively with diverse professionals in a fast-paced, digital and traditional communications shop.

Job Summary

In this position you will:

  • Create content for social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, etc.)
  • Use social media insights to report on social media performance and inform content
  • Assist with the design and execution of communications plans
  • Assist with creation of creative assets to support communications plans such as video, photos, infographics, and social media graphics
  • Help with presentation creation and speech writing for the 2022 State of the City
  • Assist in coordinating digital distribution of content
  • Assist in creating and editing videos
  • Help to coordinate press opportunities – press releases and media advisory
  • Assisting staff with tracking, formatting, and archiving media
  • Use Google Analytics to create reports
  • Research, analyze, and share digital practices across competitive landscape

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • Current enrollment in a Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Public Affairs, or Digital Marketing program or a recent graduate of one of these programs or a similar program

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience working with and/or understanding of the major social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube in a business setting
  • Experience working with and/or understanding of social media analytics tools including Facebook Business Suite, Twitter Insights and Google Analytics
  • Experience with design software such as the Adobe Suite and Canva
  • Experience with image/video editing software
